One of the things I have looked forward to most during ” social distancing” and ” Qtime” is my daily walks around the neighborhood.
It has been important for me since I live alone to at least get out of the house for some fresh air and activity . I am fortunate to live in a beautiful area with lots of trees, interesting houses to look at and tons of kids and dogs to watch go by.. all at a safe distance of course .
I have walked these streets many times before but there is always something new to discover . A new garden , new construction or a new puppy.
The pace is totally different in the area where the restaurants and bars are .. very calm and desolate. Several places have signs stating “curb side pickup” and “free delivery ” . Even the new wine bar that opened recently has offered curbside pickup and delivery…..very tempting . It is clear that business are adapting to the new reality in order to stay afloat.
As I turn the corner , past the elementary school and down a side street, one that I have walked many, many times, I noticed something oddly fascinating. This has never caught my attention before but what stood out to me today was a line of trees and the way they where growing, thriving and adapting .
They looked exactly like towers. Finding the sun and reaching for the stars after being hacked up by the city to avoid growing around the power lines. It is a dreadful thing to witness , the aftermath of the tree trimming but this was encouraging to me . So inspiring and positive .

Over time these particular trees figured out a way to stay alive . They overcame an obstacle, a change in their environment , and figured out a way to survive .
This seemed like the perfect metaphor for the times we are in right now . To learn to adapt to obstacles and change while still thriving .
We may never have our normal way of life back but we can still find joy and happiness by changing our perspective. With patience, thoughtfulness and kindness we can make this work. It wont be the same but we can overcome this together .
Eventhough I am a stubborn Taurus, very reluctant to change, I will do my best to be like the trees.
